The fearless recortadores from Spain making their debut for the first time in Canada. A spectacular indoor winter event organized by Ganadaria Sol & Toiros at the Orangeville Fairgrounds on the weekend of January 17 & 18, 2009. Xino Esteve & his boys jumped & somersaulted over the bulls in the arena. The Portuguese “capinhas” from Terceira island & the Canadian boys along with one American, entertained the sold-out crowd. Also present at the show were the dozen “cowboys & ranchers” from California & Colorado. An event that will be repeated on a yearly basis by the organizer & stock-breeder Elio Leal. The guys in the pink T’s are from the Azores, they are street bullfighters from Terciera who are paid to go out n bullfight in Canada n put on shows in places where there isn’t much experience. I know most of them personally.

One of the differences between traditional spanish bullfighting and recortes (ie. jumping over bulls) is that the bull is not killed, but led back into its pen at the end of the performance, just as you saw in this video. For me, this can be accepted but only to a certain degree. At some point you should stop teasing the bull. I think what I saw in this video was okay. At least there was some great acrobatics.
